Cyclooxygenase - 2 induces the expression of the alpha 2 , 3 sialyltransferase - 3 ( ST 3 Gal - I ) in breast cancer

چکیده
Background: Aberrant glycosylation is a common feature of breast cancer. Results: Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) an enzyme associated with tumorigenesis in breast cancer upregulated the sialyltransferase ST3Gal-I. Conclusion: COX-2 can regulate the expression of ST3Gal-I in breast cancer Significance: Some of the tumorigenic properties associated with COX-2 may be the result of upregulating ST3Gal-I that can alter the O-linked glycosylation of tumours.

The MUC1 mucin is expressed on the luminal surface of most simple epithelial cells but in carcinomas, especially those of the breast and ovary, MUC1 is upregulated and aberrantly glycosylated. MUC1 contains a large amount of O-linked glycans which, in the mucin expressed by normal mammary epithelial cells, consist mainly of core 2 based structures carrying polylactosamine chains. However, the m...

Carbohydrate chains of cancer glycoprotein antigens contain major outer changes dictated by tissue-specific regulation of glycosyltransferase genes, the availability of sugar nucleotides, and competition between enzymes for acceptor intermediates during glycan elongation. However, it is evident from recent studies with recombinant mucin probes that the final glycosylation profiles of mucin glyc...

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related death among women. Recently, extremely low-frequency electromagnetic field (ELF-EMF) has been proposed as a new interfering agent with future therapeutic potentials. Many studies have revealed that cellular processes such as apoptosis in breast cancer are affected by ELF-EMFs. However, more researches are needed to clarify t...
